Baby Gone Away

from Crooked Songs by Rance Garrison

/

about

This song was recorded the same night as Ric Flair, with the same guys. Had a hell of a time that night. We only had one electric guitar. My buddy Josh played it until the bridge then tossed it to me and I played the little slide solo, then I tossed it back to him. He was afraid to let loose til the song ended, then he really started getting into it.

The bass line was Keaton's. Joe banged on some pots and pans with a pair of wooden spoons. I put a slight echo effect on his drumming. The lyrics and vocals are me. I was obviously really into Tom Waits at the time.

Submitted it on the old garageband website thinking people would dig us and people told us we were terrible. I didn't care. I loved it. Looking back on that fun and innocent time in my life, I love it even more now.

lyrics

My baby gone away
I"m full of sorrow
Full of woe
Got troubles even the Lord don't know
Got you on my mind all day
Ever since my baby gone away

I'm a prisoner of your love
You were sent to me on the wings of a dove
You're the owner of this lonely heart
You're the rhythm when the music starts

All my joy is now lost
On stormy seas carelessly tossed
You are the fire
You are the flame
But my baby gone away

I'm full of sorrow
Full of woe
Got troubles even the Lord don't know
Got you on my mind all day
Ever since my baby gone away.
