A Necessary Time in the Land of the Left Lane Bogarts

Sugar Babe 03:42
Well, I heard that you got into some trouble with the law Went down to Marietta, Georgia by way of Kinnesaw And there you married a man almost twice your age And you call him sugar daddy and he calls you sugar babe. When you were in the hotel lounge drunk on the devil's wine I lied when I told you everything would work out fine

You don't meet good friends inside retail stores Not a brawler within a pagan or a whore To smile when you come enter to to their black ranks They hand you the gun without a word of thanks I saw Miss Sally Cooper she was crying in my mind She said to me my dear I'm so lonely all the time

about

These songs were all written and recorded between mid 2006 and mid 2008.

In the aftermath of a breakup, I moved to Tennessee to find myself. Or something like that.

I was listening to a lot of Bob Dylan's early years during this time, and I think it's kind of obvious. All of these are folksy, bluesy, acoustic love ballads that are pretty rough around the edges and feature crying ghosts, apocalyptic bridegrooms, the Hogwild Saloon, and Jerry Falwell. Come follow me down to Cannery Row with John the Baptist and we'll get lost in the graveyard together.

Peace,

Rance

credits

released April 1, 2008

Proudly made in the Great State of Tennessee.

All songs written by Rance Garrison except "Saint James Infirmary," traditional.

Rance Garrison: acoustic guitar and vocals
Jason Miles: lead acoustic guitar on "Lonely All the Time,"The Searcher," and "Saint James Infirmary."
Keaton Lawson: chord organ on "the Searcher"'; percussion on "Saint James Infirmary."

Produced by Rance Garrison

The album title comes from something my father said about Tennessee being full of what he called "left lane bogarts," people who got in the passing lane and drove too slow. For some reason, I found it appropriate. I dedicate this album to him.
